The Associated Press reported (12/13/47, The Post Standard, Syracuse, NY) that baseball great Jackie Robinson was going to become a professional wrestling referee in California. With Los Angeles promoter Cal Eaton making arrangements, Robinson got his referee license from the California State Athletic Commission, and was going to debut "next Wednesday" at the Olympic Auditorium. He was going to officiate the Dutch Hefner-Sandor Szabo bout, and further dates were being worked on. Research by Tim Hornbaker November 1, 2010 |
