Arnold "Whitey" Carlson was the owner and operator of the Island Garden Arena in West Hempstead, New York. He was born on September 13, 1924 in Brooklyn, the son of Arnold and Anna Carlson. His father was born in Sweden on December 11, 1888, and the family was living Hempstead, Nassau County, by 1930. "Whitey" Carlson built the Island Garden Arena around 1957. Some exciting wrestling and boxing action occurred at the Arena, leaving lasting memories in the minds of people who witnessed them. Carlson relocated to Los Angeles, where he passed away on August 8, 2010. He was survived by his wife Ruth and two sons, Richard and Steve Carlson.
