Crowd Estimate: 16,000. SummerSlam ’99 -Billed as an “Out of Body Experience.” The ’99 event was held at the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN on August 22, 1999, a Sunday Evening in the Midwest. In the last part of the 1900’s, the World Wrestling Federation was venturing into former Tony Stecher, Wally Karbo and Verne Gagne territory with pay-per-view. More then 17,000 Minnesota wrestling fans attended the event. To top it all off, a former employee who had won nearly a million dollars in a 1994 lawsuit against the organization, and governor of the state, Jesse Ventura was brought in to referee the main event. Ventura was also special referee for the main event of SummerSlam 1988. This was the first pay-per-view ever held in one of the twin cities. The AWA held a PPV in 1988, but in Chicago. The closest was a LPWA event in 1992 at Rochester, Minnesota. Five WWF Titles changed hands on the card.
