*Promoter Lou Daro wanted to book Everette Marshall into a World Title match with Gus
Sonnenberg.  He offered a $50,000 guarantee to Sonnenberg, but it was refused on
Friday, April 4, 1930.  Sonnenberg stated that Marshall had to beat either Joe Stecher or
Ed Lewis to earn the match.

*On Monday, April 7, 1930, Los Angeles promoter Lou Daro announced that he had
signed Ed “Strangler” Lewis to wrestle Everette Marshall at the Olympic Auditorium on
April 16, after negotiations with Lewis’ manager Billy Sandow were successful.

*On Friday, April 18, 1930, promoter Lou Daro announced that he had signed a match
between World Heavyweight Champion Gus Sonnenberg and Everette Marshall.  The bout
would take place on May 5 in Los Angeles.  Initial reports were that Sonnenberg refused
to put his claim to the championship and his $10,000 belt on the line.

*On Wednesday, April 23, 1930, Lou Daro announced that the $10,000 diamond-studded
belt would be up for grabs when Everette Marshall challenged Gus Sonnenberg for the
latter’s World Heavyweight Title.  Daro was billed as the manager of Marshall.

Notes:  “Don George” was billed by the Los Angeles Times as a “youthful newcomer to the
wrestling colony.” The paper reported that “the victory was hailed with loud acclaim, the
assembled 10,000 fans going wild in their enthusiasm, jumping over the seats in a wild
attempt to lift the new champion up on their shoulders.”
