A photo of Joe Travis performing a wrestling maneuver appeared in the Wednesday,
January 13, 1932 edition of the Wichita Eagle.  The caption read, "Above is Joe Travis,
Wichita fireman and highly skilled wrestler demonstrating the arm scissors with arms locks
on the person of Bill Carpenter.  Travis is turning professional in earnest and will seek
matches with leading grapplers throughout the wrestling world."


The August 19, 1945 edition of the Waterloo (IA) Daily Courier stated that Joe Travis of
Boston was going to wrestle Don McIntyre in the first preliminary bout.  Travis was a
newcomer to Waterloo.
