He was the "holder of five belts, including the world's championship, and the Lord Lonsdale diamond belt." He reportedly went undefeated during a tour of the U.S., Canada, and Mexico three years earlier, and was in search of big matches in Chicago against Willoughby or Ernest Kartje.
