When discussing the famous brother combinations in professional wrestling history, the "Riot Squad" Dusek Brothers usually are the name that comes up first. Certainly Rudy, Ernie, Emil, and Joe Dusek cemented their place in the annuls of the sport, as did the Zaharias clan. Up there with the most successful sibling groups were the Garibaldi Brothers. Like the Duseks and Zahariases, they were made up of legitimate brothers, and parlayed their talents into different roles in the wrestling business through the years. A rare photo of Gino and his son, "Gino Jr.," wrestling, appeared in the July 16, 1937 edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Gino Jr., of course, would be known to the wrestling world as Leo Garibaldi. In 1944, there was a wrestler working by the name "John Garibaldi," whose real name was Charles Conidi. On October 12, 1944 in Hollywood, Conidi began a four-year prison term for draft violation. He claimed that he didn't want to hurt anyone, so he didn't want to fight in the war. Conidi was 31 years of age and had no relation to the Garibaldi brothers. Research by Tim Hornbaker |
