*An article in the Wednesday, September 28, 1977 edition of the El Paso Herald-Post
stated that Gory Guerrero was going to return to wrestling promotions on Sunday, October
2, 1977 after a two and a half year layoff.  Guerrero was going to stage shows with talent
from the National Wrestling Alliance office in Amarillo, and feature the likes of the Funk
Brothers.  Gory was said to have promoted in El Paso for seven years in the past.  He
believed that wrestling would be revived locally with the decision to allow matches to be
held on Sundays in Texas.  His son Chavo Guerrero would be also highlighed.  Chavo was
a graduate of Burges High School and he wrestled on the University of Texas (El Paso)
squad before becoming a grappling coach at Jefferson High School.  There was another
promoter in El Paso named Salvador (Sal) Romo, who began booking the Coliseum on
Tuesdays for wrestling two months earlier.  Romo also wanted to run on Sundays, and
secured Sunday, October 16 for his promotion.
