The Monday, July 31, 1944 edition of the Montreal Gazette stated that Sam Buxbaum "says that wrestlers can seldom be converted into good boxers because their reflexes are too slow. Paul Berlenbach was the outstanding exception. Toots Mondt and Charlie Cutler, big names in wrestling, were both ambitious to become boxers at one time and trained with Buxbaum when he operated a gym out in Denver many years ago. But they took Sam's advice and abandoned the effort. On the other hand, few if any boxers ever made the grade as wrestlers." Research by Tim Hornbaker October 24, 2010 |
